Technical Director

Nick Mantell

With over 20 years of hands-on experience in engineering and manufacturing, Nick Mantell plays a pivotal technical role at RGH Converting — helping customers solve complex problems and overseeing everything from quoting and design to quality and delivery.

Nick originally got to know RGH while working at a previous company, where RGH was a key supplier. The relationship grew, and when the opportunity arose to officially join the team, it felt like the natural next step. These days, Nick’s rarely standing still — and likely involved in just about everything.

Getting to Know Me

What I Do at RGH

Nick’s background is rooted in the automotive and injection moulding industries. A Chartered Engineer with an Engineering Degree, he’s held roles spanning project management, quality, production, and process optimisation — even spending two years in Spain launching a new plant. He’s also worked in advanced metal processing, adding to his broad technical skill set.

At RGH, Nick wears multiple hats — designing parts, quoting jobs, developing tools, reviewing PPAP and IMDS submissions, sourcing materials, running machines, and sometimes even making the deliveries himself. It’s this practical, all-round approach that keeps projects moving and customers confident.

  • Journey

How did you get started in manufacturing/converting?

RGH was a supplier to my previous company. I got to know the team, the processes, and the materials. When the opportunity came to join, it was an easy decision.

  • What’s your background before RGH?

I’m a Chartered Engineer and have worked mostly in automotive, across project management, quality, production, and process improvement — including launching a plant in Spain and working with metal processing companies.

  • Role

What’s your current role at RGH?

A bit of everything — quoting, tooling, prototyping, materials, planning, quality, customer support, finance, and even logistics.

  • What does a typical day look like?

No two days are the same. I could be designing components in the morning, checking quality in the afternoon, and loading up for a delivery by evening.

  • Role

Do you specialise in any materials, processes, or sectors?

I specialise in all things technical, starting from customer requirement to bonding technologies, I also specialise in customer application to make sure it is the right product, at the right price, presented in the right way for optimum application.

  • What problems do you most enjoy solving?

I like challenges where design, process, practicality, and cost need to align. The trick is balancing technical detail with real-world needs.

  • Life & Spirit

What do you enjoy outside of work?

I spend time woodturning and building model rockets with the aim of breaking the speed of sound! I’m also into flight simulation, live music, real ale, and spontaneous travel.

  • Any hobbies, passions, or unusual skills?

Model rocketry (over 800Ns impulse), collecting flight data, woodworking, and flying virtual planes — usually with a beer in hand and a live band nearby.
